Arts Meet Bizness, a Cultural Initiative Resident at
Fabra i Coats – Art Factory Barcelona (2018, 2019)
During a two-year cultural residency at the multidisciplinary creative arts center Fabra i Coats, I developed an educational program and creative experience, in which the combined use of creative space and the techniques used by artists from various arts disciplines could be utilized as a portal to thought, connectedness, creation, and expression.
In eight 2-hour weekly sessions, adult participants from all walks of life explored their creative capacities with one another. The intensive program combined techniques from music, theatre, visual art, creative writing, and dance. The program opened with a series of creative sprints that aimed to build creative confidence and collaborative trust. The workshop series was completed with an imagination session to combine techniques.
This project was approached as a deep exploration of the ultimate power of the creative process, and the cultural impact that can be made with more effective use of our imaginations.
I initially entered this project with the aim of using creative techniques to develop and enhance the emotional intelligence of adults. Instead, what I learned over the course of facilitating this prototype was that participants not only increased their EI, they ultimately expanded their imagination capacities while developing their own unique creative practices. Accessing their imagination in a shared creative environment created more natural opportunities to make emotional connections to others and to themselves.
